Conzepte is a project for the dissemination of current art and theory with a sociopolitical focus. It offers a new publication format for works (process-oriented, transdisciplinary, critiquing representation) by artists, theorists, and activists.

In a series of commissions, the Conzepte editors invite two writers to relate to a historical source text that has influenced their own thinking. The new works are published side by side with the source text. This basic model always creates two current references to the historical source material, appearing at the same time in two different international publications.

A distinct look is designed for each newspaper or magazine. The new text format finds its visual equivalent in this graphic presentation. The designers call conventions into question and try new graphic approaches. The writers, too, experiment with genres and reading habits. Their writing looks for new forms of expression and sets itself apart from the usual formats of journalistic, theoretical, or academic text production.

Conzepte (from the Latin concipio: literally ‘take together’, meaning conceive, comprehend, grasp) literally joins two ideas on a sociopolitically relevant theme into a new, textual and visual form. These new versions of political thought are published in international newspapers and magazines, on the Internet, and in book form.
